21 Aug Hyatt Place West Celebrates Structure Top-Off
OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND – August 21, 2024 – Gillis Gilkerson is pleased to announce the “topping-off” of the Hyatt Place West in Ocean City, Maryland. The “top-off”, or the completion of the concrete structure of the four-story complex was reached on Wednesday August 21st, including the completed construction of the concrete housing for the elevator shafts and stair towers that sit above the fourth floor’s roof. Now that the structure is in place, work will begin to enclose the new hotel, and build-out its interior floors.
Hyatt Place West is being built as an exciting addition to the well-known Hyatt Place Ocean City / Oceanfront, located at 16th Street and the boardwalk. Hyatt Place West will be located just across Baltimore Avenue, directly behind the existing hotel. The new property will be ideal for extended stay travelers and groups, featuring spacious studio rooms with kitchenettes and balconies, combined with state-of-the-art amenities, all just steps from the ocean. In addition to the expanded in-suite amenities, guests of the Hyatt Place West will enjoy free parking, complimentary breakfast, and a second-floor outdoor pool.
Preparation for the 63 room, + / – 45,500 square foot hotel began with the demolition of four cottages previously acquired to make way for the new accommodation. Gillis Gilkerson oversaw the demolition process and began foundation work in November 2023, driving over a hundred precast concrete pilings to make way for the post-tension concrete structure. Gillis Gilkerson Project Manager Jared King and Superintendent Chris Deinlein have managed the project to its current stage.
“Top-off is an important milestone, because it’s a turning point for making progress elsewhere”, remarked GGI Project Manager Jared King. “It’s an accomplishment you can appreciate visually, and it represents the commencement of interior and exterior framing, installation of the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and roofing systems, and more.” Completion of Hyatt Place West is on track to open in Spring 2025.
