Gillis Gilkerson Celebrates Affordable Housing with The Reese Apartments

FELTON, DELAWARE – JUNE 11, 2026 – Gillis Gilkerson team members were proud to celebrate the grand opening of The Reese Apartments, alongside Carson Development, LLC with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by Governor Matt Meyer, DHSA Director Matthew Heckles, local leaders, community partners and residents.  The 48-unit affordable housing community in Felton, Delaware offers a mix of one, two and three bedroom units designed for households across a range of income levels.  Gillis Gilkerson Project Manager Robin Steininger, Superintendents Chris Powell and John Williamson, Estimator Daniel Ash, President Tyler Barnes and Operations Manager Wayne Porter were honored during the ceremony for their contributions to the project.

“Access to stable housing plays a direct role in the health and economic strength of our communities,” said Delaware Governor Matt Meyer. “Developments like Reese Apartments support working families, strengthen local economies and help ensure more Delawareans have the foundation they need to succeed.”

Originally breaking ground in 2024, the community reached full occupancy within six weeks, drawing more than 330 applications, underscoring the region’s ongoing housing shortage and strong demand for quality, attainable housing.  Residences feature energy-efficient appliances, modern finishes, and access to amenities like a community room, walking paths, playground, gazebo, laundry facility, bike storage and a covered bus stop.  Delaware State Housing Authority (DSHA) and Kent County have recognized the project’s positive impacts, including improvements to off-site infrastructure bringing essential public sewer and water services to the area, which lays the groundwork for future commercial growth and job creation along its section of Route 13.
