Gillis Gilkerson Completes Office Transformation for Repeat Customer Taylor Bank

BERLIN, MARYLAND – June 19, 2024  Taylor Bank’s main office headquarters located at 24 North Main Street in Berlin, Maryland was originally built in 1906. Over the years, the historic building has undergone five major renovations, with the last two completed by Gillis Gilkerson.  The most recent renovation focused on transforming an unfinished second-floor loft area into usable office space.

The renovation was able to create room for five additional office spaces, six additional cubicle spaces, a copy room, utility room and a second-floor restroom.  The renovation included the addition of a skylight, bringing natural light and architectural interest to the office area. Crown molding, surrounding the bank’s beautiful tin ceiling panels in the lobby’s open balcony area, received updates to match the existing molding.

Notably, the renovation was completed without disruption to the bank’s business hours or staff comfort. Gillis Gilkerson Project Manager Greg Ennis and Superintendent Chris Powell took extra care to plan for noise reduction and dust control to minimize disturbances to the staff working on the first floor.  The Gillis Gilkerson team maintained communication with the Taylor Bank Berlin Office staff throughout the entire process so they knew what to expect, without surprises.

“Communication and consideration are paramount when working on a renovation job like this”, explains Project Manager Greg Ennis. “Minimizing interference with the business was at the forefront of our planning, from the demolition phase through the final punch list.  Fortunately, the renovation included access to a rear staircase, so we could isolate our comings and goings, and material staging away from the main entrance.”

The new office area significantly expands the usable space for the busy Taylor Bank headquarter location.  The second-floor’s finishes feature a coastal color-palette, with lots of trim accents to create an inviting feel. Updated heating and cooling for the loft area will ensure employees of Taylor Bank have beautiful and comfortable working space for years to come.

“The renovated space has more than met our expectations in terms of design, comfort, efficiency and aesthetic appeal,” said Ray Thompson, President and CEO of Taylor Bank. “We have trusted Gillis Gilkerson with our renovations in the past, and they have again proven their dedication, professionalism, and experience by delivering us a fantastic final product.”
