Just call her the jack of all trades. Luanne Timmons has been with Gillis Gilkerson since 1988. She started as a receptionist and just months later she began assisting with accounts payable and receivable.
“I like the days of the handshake,” said Timmons. “These guys here still do it. They value face to face communication.”
Luanne has worked on Salisbury’s downtown plaza for 43 years. Before Gillis Gilkerson she worked for White and Leonard, a stationary store and Jolly Jack, a pharmacy and gift store. She says back then, traveling to Salisbury from Berlin was a treat.”
“The bench outside Davis Bowen & Friedel is where Doc always sat. There were always people on the plaza back then. There was a Woolworth’s, Five and Dime and a pet store. It has changed a lot.”
It excites Luanne to see the changes her company is making to revitalize downtown Salisbury.
“We are bringing life back to the area by renovating historic buildings for new businesses, apartments and helping bring Salisbury University downtown. It’s a good thing.”
Today, Luanne lives in Salisbury. She has two children and enjoys spending time with her grandson.
Luanne says she is “semi-retired” because she doesn’t set an alarm clock anymore.
“I enjoy what I do,” added Timmons. “I work for a family. We are all family. There’s no better boss than Palmer. He’s my friend. Why would I go anywhere else?”
